A collectable antique Victorian charm pendant featuring a watch key and heart padlock both fashioned in 9ct gold and engraved with scrolled patterning. The key is inlaid with speckled bloodstone and white agate seals and the heart is topped with a garnet studded shamrock with a hidden locket on the back displaying a lock of curled hair.
Heart padlocks and keys were popular love tokens in the 19th Century and were a symbol of love and commitment. This is further emphasised by the three leaves of the shamrock which usually stand for faith, hope and love. Locks of hair were also common mementos and sometimes kept after a loved one had passed away so that a piece of them remained forever close to the wearer's heart.
It's a sweet antique treasure, in excellent condition and was likely part of a much greater love story.
